Correcting or removing a listing

Firms are listed from the IRS Return Preparer PTIN file, released under the Freedom of Information Act. Names appear as they are registered with the IRS, which is why some are abbreviated, misspelled or oddly capitalized — we reproduce the record rather than tidy it, because tidying someone else’s name is guesswork.

If your practice is listed and you would rather it were not, write and say so. No reason is needed, and nothing is asked in return — name the practice and the city page, and it comes out. If instead the entry is simply wrong, a link to your own site is enough to correct it against.

What this site does not do

It is a reference, not a directory service and not an advisory. It does not rank firms, accept payment for placement, or pass inquiries on to anyone listed — we hold no contact details for them beyond the phone number and website already shown on the page.

Nor is anything here accounting or tax advice. A question about your own books belongs with a practitioner: a CPA, an enrolled agent or an attorney, who are also the only people permitted to represent you before the IRS.

Cookies and analytics

Two things count visitors here, and only one of them needs asking about. Cloudflare Web Analytics runs on every page, sets no cookie and keeps no identifier — there is nothing stored about you to consent to or withdraw.

Google Analytics is the other, and it does set a cookie, which is why it is not loaded at all until you accept. Decline and no request to Google is ever made — not a cookieless one either, which is what most consent banners actually mean by “decline”. Your answer is kept in your browser and sent nowhere; the Cookies link in the footer reopens the choice, and switching to no also deletes the cookies already set.

No advertising, retargeting or Google Signals tags run on this site. Following a link to a payroll or bookkeeping provider takes you to their site, where their own rules apply and we can promise nothing on their behalf.

Figures and sources

Market numbers come from the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns for 2022, and the underlying tables are published for anyone to check. If a number here disagrees with the Census figure, that is worth an email — send the page and the figure you expected.

Data downloads for every service and city are linked in the footer and listed in llms.txt. Quoting and citing the figures is welcome; please name the underlying source along with the site.
